Installation of Anti-Slip stair nosings, stair covers and anti-slip sheets to various emergency exit metal staircases and a disabled access ramp as part of on-going safety improvements at a Yorkshire school. A total of 7 fire escape staircases and one disabled access ramp were made slip-resistant using our specially manufactured GRP nosings and sheets.
A problem with slip risk was first highlighted during a fire drill when a pupil slipped and fell during the drill resulting in a bottleneck of pupils not being able to escape in the allocated time scale, this caused concern with the members of staff and pupils resulting in a programme of safety improvements being introduced.
All the staircases within the site were made slip resistant, this would drastically reduce the risk of a slip accident during a practice drill or more importantly during a real fire evacuation.
